The fourth edition of the Malay Theatre Festival will take place on 12, 13, 14 and 15 August 2026.

This year, performances will be held during the day at the Ougy wash house and in the evenings at the town hall in the village of Malay.

Three evenings on the theme of space

This year, the Malay Theatre Festival will open with an exceptional event: a solar eclipse during which the Moon will obscure between 95 and 97 per cent of the Sun’s disc from 7.30 pm until nightfall. We invite you to come and observe this incredible phenomenon with us and enjoy a completely free evening featuring various performances and activities on the theme of space. The evenings of Thursday 13 and Friday 14 August will continue this theme with two interactive plays inviting the audience to immerse themselves in adventures at the far reaches of our universe. It will begin with Mission étoiles by the Facette theatre company, a humorous investigation in which three characters try to track down a team of astronauts who mysteriously disappeared two years earlier. Then, the evening will continue with Horizon(s) by the Le chant des pistes theatre company. This show will take you aboard a scientific vessel to explore black holes and invite you to unravel the many secrets surrounding them.

During the day, more “down-to-earth” performances

In keeping with previous editions, our 2026 programme invites you to discover works from the world of contemporary theatre, with numerous daytime performances.

From Komorebi, which explores the theme of grief through exquisitely sensitive poetic writing, to Mariquita, an interactive play blending song and dance set in a Colombian village where women find themselves having to take charge of their community’s destiny, to Dull Days, which explores the theme of friendship, we invite you to discover theatrical productions in a variety of forms and themes.

New this year: For the first time, we are offering a show for young audiences, aimed at children aged 4 to 10. Graines, by the Les Grimpantes theatre company, invites the audience to discover the plants that populate our daily lives through a performance blending theatre, music and dance.

Closing night

The festival will close on Saturday 16th with Tu Noues by the Rouge Esope company. In this show, which moves between seriousness and light-heartedness, two characters celebrate their 22,222nd anniversary of living together and, through physical performance, explore the bonds that unite us.

This performance will be followed by an open stage session during which you can share your various talents with the festival audience. Whether you’re an actor, musician, singer, poet, dancer… The stage at the Malay Theatre Festival is yours!
