On 14, 15 and 16 August 2026, the Château de Bresse-sur-Grosne (Saône-et-Loire) will transport you to the heart of the Grand Siècle for the fifth edition of its historical spectacle: ‘Un Serment pour l’Honneur’.

The year is 1682. Louis XIV reigns over France. Raphaëlle, a young woman from Cluny, embarks on a perilous quest to clear her father’s name, as he has been unjustly convicted of the murder of the Countess of Bresse. Her journey will take her to the very heart of the Sun King’s court, where she will uncover a plot threatening the stability of the entire kingdom.

This unique swashbuckling spectacle offers much more than a simple performance: it is a true immersion in history. As soon as the gates open at 6.30 pm, young and old alike can wander through a bustling fair brought to life by short skits, costumed merchants, soldiers and numerous period characters, before heading to the château’s main courtyard to watch the evening performance.

Entirely run by passionate volunteers, this project brings together more than 100 amateur actors and technicians every year for a show eagerly awaited by nearly 2,700 spectators over three evenings. Beyond mere entertainment, the event is part of an initiative to pass on our heritage: bringing history to life, raising awareness of local heritage amongst younger generations, and contributing to the restoration of the estate’s historic chapel.
